Who is Jesus? Maybe you’ve heard of Him. Maybe you haven’t. Perhaps you know people who speak of Him as a friend, or it could be that the only time you’ve heard the name, Jesus is when someone was angry. It’s safe to say that Jesus is the most well-known man who has ever lived. No other person in history has had more influence in the world than Jesus, and no other person has been more widely debated. Regardless of who you are, where you grew up, or what (if any) your religious background is, you presumably have an opinion about Jesus. It could be that your view of Jesus goes no farther than the fact that you don’t know who He is and it doesn’t matter to you anyway — you still have an opinion. The question we should ask ourselves, however, is this. Who is Jesus, really?
Jesus is REAL
Jesus is not just a good guy we heard stories about growing up. He is not just someone that we talk about when we go to church. He is real! In other words, Jesus was actually and matter of factly born. He lived a real life and died an actual death. He walked on real earth and breathed real air. Simply put His life took place in the context of real history. This truth is vital in our understanding of Jesus.
Jesus is THE WAY
Not only is Jesus real, but Jesus is the way. You might ask, “The way to what?” In short, he is the way we are forgiven.
Each of us whether we are willing to believe it or not have a sin problem. In other words, every person who has ever lived has fallen short of God’s standard, which is perfection. Romans 3:23 says, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” The result of our sin is death, separation from God forever. You and I deserve to be separated from God forever. But God loved you and I so much that He provided a way for you to have that relationship with Him restored. That way is through Jesus Christ. It is not an option among many. He is the only way!
Jesus is EVERYTHING
Whether you are a college student or a professional, a nanny or a plumber, a work-from-home dad or a stay-at-home mom. Jesus should be at the center of everything you do. He is the one who provides salvation. He is our example and Colossians 1:16 says that “all things were created by Him and for Him.” The focus and heartbeat of our lives should center around the real and living, person of Jesus.
